    "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves" (Matthew 10:16). Jesus calls us to wisdom that is both pure and practical.

    Discernment is the ability to judge well - to see situations clearly and choose rightly. Jesus modeled this when He saw through the Pharisees' traps, when He knew what was in people's hearts, when He chose His twelve from among many followers.

    The wisdom Jesus offers isn't worldly cunning but heavenly insight. James says it is "first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." This wisdom comes from above - we ask for it in faith, and God gives generously.
